SOFTWARE OVERVIEW

Meshenger

Meshenger is an Android app for direct voice and video calls over a local network.

About Meshenger

Meshenger is an Android app for direct voice and video calls over a local network. It does not require accounts, registration, or internet access. To connect, users scan each other’s QR codes, which contain the contact’s IP address. Contacts can also be added with custom addresses. Because calls are made directly between devices, Meshenger does not provide a central discovery service or server. Both callers need a way to reach each other on the same local network, such as a home or company network. The product description also mentions community mesh networks as an off-grid setting where this can work. Calls are described as encrypted. Meshenger is suited to voice or video communication when devices can connect over a local network and users want to avoid creating online accounts. Its peer-to-peer setup means contact exchange and network reachability are part of getting a call started, rather than being handled by a central directory.
