About monocles chat
monocles chat is an Android XMPP messaging client for one-to-one and group conversations. It supports sending messages, images, files, locations, and voice messages, along with audio and video calls. Contact avatars and status messages are displayed, and message history can synchronize with other clients. The client requires encrypted connections between the app and server and supports end-to-end encryption options including OMEMO, OpenPGP, and OTR. It can integrate with the device address book without sending the address book to the server. A daily backup of the local message database is also available. monocles chat is intended for users of XMPP servers who want messaging, calls, media sharing, and encryption in one app. Its connection security and optional end-to-end encryption provide different layers of protection: transport encryption protects the connection to the server, while end-to-end encryption can make message contents readable only on the intended devices. The client is based on existing XMPP software and includes usability and security changes.
