About NextcloudServices
NextcloudServices is an Android service app that retrieves notifications from a self-hosted collaboration server on devices without Google Play services. Users can connect by entering a server address and a per-app password, or approve access through the main server app. Once configured, the service provides a way to receive notifications from the user’s server without relying on Google’s push services. The setup process is security-sensitive. The app’s instructions require generating a per-app password through the server’s security settings before connecting, and recommend disabling file access for that password. This limits the purpose of the credential to notification access. The product also supports selecting an account through the server’s main Android app. NextcloudServices is intended for users who run the compatible server and want its notifications on Android devices without Google services. It is a companion service rather than a full file or collaboration client, and requires a server account and correctly configured per-app credentials.
