About NFCGate
NFCGate is an Android research toolkit for capturing, analyzing, and modifying NFC traffic. It can capture communication between apps on the device, replay previously captured traffic in reader or tag mode, and clone initial tag information such as an identifier. Captures can be exported in pcapng format for analysis with network inspection tools. The app also supports relaying NFC traffic between two devices through a server. One device acts as the reader and communicates with a physical tag, while the other emulates a tag through Android’s host card emulation. This allows researchers to examine how a protocol behaves when traffic is captured, relayed, or modified. NFCGate is intended for NFC protocol research and security assessment. Its operations require compatible NFC hardware and, for relay mode, a server connection between devices. Because it can replay or emulate captured NFC exchanges, it should be used only with tags and systems the user is authorized to test.
