About NFCMessageBoard
NFCMessageBoard reads and writes plain-text messages to NFC tags. A user can read a tag or prepend a new message to its existing text, creating a simple localized message board that can be accessed by anyone who scans the tag. UTF-8 support allows messages to include a broad range of characters and emoji, while links, email addresses, and map locations are automatically recognized. The app is described as a proof of concept for a physical “dead drop” style of communication, such as leaving a guestbook entry at a location. NFC tags have limited storage; the description recommends a tag with roughly 800 bytes of writable memory. Since tags can be spoofed, the app’s author notes that this approach is not authenticated communication. NFCMessageBoard is suited to simple shared notes attached to a physical tag rather than private messaging between verified users.
