About OnionDrop
OnionDrop is an Android app for sending and receiving files through temporary Tor onion links. Tor and the transfer server run on the phone, so the app does not require an external OnionDrop server, cloud account, Umbrel setup, or separate Tor-routing app. A sender can create a temporary link and share it with a recipient, or receive files through a link generated on the device. Links can also be represented as QR codes, and transfers include SHA-256 checksums for checking file integrity. Files are stored locally and can be exported through Android’s document picker. Sessions expire automatically after thirty minutes, limiting how long a transfer link remains active. OnionDrop is described as having no advertising or analytics SDKs and is licensed under GPL version 3 or later. Its design combines local file handling with temporary onion links, so the phone itself provides the transfer endpoint rather than sending files through a cloud account. The app is focused on direct file exchange, not long-term online storage.
