About PCAPdroid
PCAPdroid is an Android network monitor and firewall that can capture traffic without root by creating a local VPN interface on the device. It does not route traffic through a remote VPN server; captured data is processed locally. Users can inspect connections from apps, compare data sent and received, and block selected connections. The app extracts hostnames and IP addresses from DNS, TLS, and HTTP information and can identify remote server country and network provider using an offline database. For deeper analysis, PCAPdroid can save traffic as PCAP files with app metadata or stream it over IP for real-time analysis on another computer. It can inspect HTTP requests and responses and export them as HAR files. HTTPS/TLS inspection and decryption are available, including saving a key log file. On rooted devices it can capture traffic while another VPN app is running. PCAPdroid is designed for inspecting network behavior and controlling connections from Android. Its VPN-based capture means it cannot operate alongside another VPN in the usual unrooted configuration. Traffic capture and decryption can expose sensitive data, so users should handle logs carefully and only inspect devices and connections they are authorized to monitor.
