About personalDNSfilter
personalDNSfilter is a DNS filtering tool that blocks selected internet hosts by intercepting domain name lookups. DNS is the system that translates a website’s name into a network address. When a requested host matches the configured blocklist, the app returns a loopback address instead of the host’s normal address, preventing the connection from reaching that destination. The filter can be used to block advertising, malware, tracking, and other unwanted hosts. On Android 4.2 and later, it can work without root access. Filtering is handled locally and can use any upstream DNS server; the app can run on an individual device or operate centrally as a DNS server for a network. personalDNSfilter is intended for users who want host-based filtering at the DNS level rather than relying on a browser-only extension. Its local processing means filtering decisions are made on the device or the user’s own network, according to the chosen blocklist and DNS setup.
