About Quad9 Connect
Quad9 Connect is an Android and ChromeOS app for directing DNS queries through a selected recursive DNS service. It creates a split VPN tunnel using Android’s VPN service interface to configure DNS separately from other device traffic. DNS requests can use DNS over TLS or ordinary UDP. The app provides a query log, trusted-network settings, notifications when queries are blocked, local domain rules, and a list of applications to exclude. These features add controls beyond configuring private DNS in the operating system or browser. Trusted networks let users adjust behavior for different connections, while exclusions can keep selected apps outside the DNS tunnel. Quad9 Connect is intended for users who want app-level controls for encrypted DNS and query handling. The split VPN tunnel is used to route DNS configuration, and the app’s logs and blocked-query notices make activity more visible.
