About RemotePointer
RemotePointer turns an Android device into a remote control for a computer. It provides mouse control through a touchpad and lets users operate the computer’s keyboard. The phone can also act as a digital laser pointer: moving the device moves the pointer on the computer’s display or projected screen. This allows a presenter to move around the room while controlling a presentation or pointing out details. The app can control slides while the user moves the pointer, so presenting and navigating do not require switching devices. The digital pointer can appear in screen recordings of the presentation and is described as easier to see in bright rooms than a physical laser. RemotePointer can also scan barcodes or QR codes for use on the computer. A companion program must be running on the computer, which can use Linux, macOS, or Windows. The project is described as self-hosted, with no external server dependency or tracking. RemotePointer is intended for presentations and remote computer control over the local setup, with the Android device supplying touch and motion input.
