About Roue Libre
Roue Libre helps plan bike-share journeys by combining walking and cycling. It displays bike stations on an offline map and computes a door-to-door route using a departure station and an arrival station. The route search considers the pair of stations together rather than selecting only the nearest one, and can account for the risk that a station may run out of bikes while a user walks to it. The map, address search, and route calculation work offline once the required city data is available. City map, route graph, and address-index data must be downloaded or installed separately; their size depends on the city. Real-time bicycle availability is the part that uses a network connection. Several city networks can be kept on the device at once, and individual city data can be removed independently. Roue Libre supports hundreds of bike-share networks that publish open data, though offline datasets are available for only some. It can suggest nearby cities based on location if the user chooses to share it with the app. The app does not keep journey history, locations, or destinations, and does not require an account. Roue Libre is useful for travelers who want to plan bike-share trips without a continuously connected map service. The practical coverage depends on the available city data and each operator’s station feed.
