About SmsLoc
SmsLoc lets a user request the current GPS location of a contact through SMS, without using mobile data. A device receiving a request reads its GPS position and sends a text response with latitude and longitude, altitude, the time of the GPS fix, speed, location accuracy, and battery percentage. Coordinates are rounded to four decimal places. The app uses SMS for the request and response and GPS on the responding phone to determine its position. This makes the workflow independent of mobile-data access, though it still relies on the phones’ ability to send and receive text messages and obtain a GPS fix. SmsLoc is a location-query utility rather than a live map or continuous tracking service. It provides a compact set of location and device details in a message that another compatible app or person can interpret.
