About VScan
VScan is an Android research tool that uses a phone camera and a vision-capable language model to interpret scenes. Users can define visual tasks such as finding an object, reading a sign, describing a scene, or responding to a particular question. Each tool combines a selected camera and camera settings with prompts that specify what to look for and how the result should be communicated. The camera view can be configured with front or rear camera selection and settings such as resolution and flashlight. Users choose the model that processes the image and can tailor prompts for different tasks. This makes the app flexible: a tool can be configured for a particular kind of visual question rather than relying on one fixed recognition feature. VScan is an open-source project aimed at exploring visual assistance for everyday situations and travel. Its results depend on the selected model and the prompt, so the app should be understood as an experimental aid rather than a guaranteed substitute for human vision.
