About Arcanum
Arcanum creates and opens encrypted containers on Android. The containers are compatible with VeraCrypt, allowing files to be stored in an encrypted volume that can also be used on desktop systems. Users can choose among AES-256, Twofish, Serpent, or cascaded ciphers, along with several hash algorithms. Keyfiles and hidden volumes are supported, and biometric unlock can be used to open a container. The app includes several controls for managing access. It can lock automatically when sent to the background, disguise itself as a calculator, and use a panic PIN that wipes sensitive app data and resets the application. The app’s own PIN is protected using Argon2id key derivation. It has no network access, analytics, or telemetry according to the product description, and data remains on the device. Arcanum is open-source software. Its containers are intended for people who want encrypted file storage that remains compatible with desktop tools. The available description lists multiple encryption and hash choices, but does not establish that any setup guarantees security in every situation. Users need to manage their container password and any keyfiles carefully, since these are part of accessing the stored files.
