About FreeOTP
FreeOTP generates one-time passwords for accounts that use standard two-factor authentication protocols. It supports HOTP, which generates codes from a counter, and TOTP, which generates codes based on time. A token can be added by scanning a QR code or by entering its configuration manually. Once configured, the app provides temporary codes to use alongside the account’s regular sign-in method. Because it implements standard OTP formats, FreeOTP can work with services that support those protocols without requiring a proprietary server component. The app description cautions users to test backup and restore when moving to a new device, as users have reported issues with that function. The core workflow is maintaining token configurations and generating codes for compatible services.
