About KabelWacht
KabelWacht is an Android client for managing and connecting to WireGuard tunnels. Users can create, search, edit, and remove tunnel profiles, import configurations by scanning a QR code or opening a configuration file, and export a profile back to a standard configuration file. A tunnel can be connected or disconnected with one tap, and the connection can also be toggled from a launcher shortcut, home-screen widget, or Quick Settings tile. Connection conditions can be set per tunnel, including rules for selected Wi-Fi networks, unmetered connections, mobile data, and roaming. The app supports always-on VPN operation and reconnecting after a reboot. Its structured editor separates interface and peer settings, while also making the complete configuration available. Hardware keyboard navigation and shortcuts are supported. A userspace networking backend means root access is not required. The app is described as having no trackers, analytics, or advertising, and its only network connection is the user’s tunnel. Location access is optional and needed only for rules based on Wi-Fi network names; the description says location is neither used nor stored. Exported configuration files contain a private key and are protected by device authentication, so users should handle them as sensitive credentials.
