About Kryfo
Kryfo is a private messaging app that does not require a phone number, email address, or account. A user’s identity is represented by a key pair generated on the device. The app routes traffic through an embedded Tor client by default and describes message content as end-to-end encrypted using the Signal protocol. When a contact is offline, messages can wait on relays in sealed form. The product says the relays cannot see message contents or who is communicating. Contacts can be verified using a safety number or QR scan, and there is no address-book upload. Chats support direct and group messaging, with photos, files, voice messages, replies, reactions, pinned messages, and polls. Animated stickers are represented by a name rather than sending an image. Users can search across chats in an encrypted database, set messages to disappear after a chosen time, and create encrypted backups. The app also offers a PIN or biometric lock, decoy PIN behavior, hidden chats behind a separate PIN, and a panic wipe that removes app data and media from storage. Kryfo has no analytics, telemetry, or ads, according to its description. Optional relays support messages to offline contacts, while direct onion delivery is also available. The product describes funding through optional, anonymous backing and says features do not depend on whether a user contributes. Its extensive privacy controls make it a security-focused messenger, but exact security properties beyond those stated are not established by the product description. The app lists support for multiple languages and includes an optional chat with its developer.
