About Kryptos

Kryptos is a keyboard and overlay tool for encrypting and decrypting messages within compatible messaging apps. Users type a message with the Kryptos keyboard and replace it with ciphertext before sending. Incoming encrypted text can be decrypted in an overlay while viewing the conversation, avoiding the need to copy text into a separate app. It also supports password-based encryption and PGP. The app describes a Signal Protocol-based mode with a new key for each message and safety codes for verifying contacts. It includes steganography options for hiding encrypted text in an image or disguising it as ordinary-looking words. Keys are generated on the device and stored in Android’s secure keystore; the app claims no network code and supports biometric or password access. A panic-wipe password, disappearing-message timers, screenshot blocking, and encrypted key export are also available. Kryptos requires keyboard and overlay permissions for its in-chat workflow, and QR scanning may require camera access. Encrypted messaging only works when participants use compatible keys and settings. The supplied description does not establish that every messenger or recipient supports all formats, so users should test communication with intended contacts before relying on it for sensitive information.
