About Mercurygram Tor Plugin
Mercurygram Tor Plugin is a companion component that lets Mercurygram route its messaging traffic through the Tor network. When the “Use Tor” option is enabled in Mercurygram, the plugin runs a Tor service in the background and provides a local SOCKS5 proxy. Mercurygram uses that proxy to carry its MTProto traffic, the protocol traffic used by the messaging client, over Tor. The plugin is distributed as a separate component because it includes Tor executables and geographic lookup databases. These components take roughly 25 MB per device architecture, so keeping them separate avoids requiring that storage from users who do not use Tor. The plugin has no user interface and does not start useful work by itself: Mercurygram must be installed and request the service. This is a narrowly focused dependency for Mercurygram’s optional Tor connection path. It does not function as a general-purpose Tor browser or proxy control app, and the supplied information describes no independent browsing or routing controls. Its role is to provide the background Tor service and local proxy that the messaging client needs when its Tor option is selected.
