About Oversec

Oversec adds encryption and decryption to text fields in other Android apps. It can encrypt text before it is sent in a chat or email, then recognize and decrypt a received message when it is displayed on screen. The underlying messaging or mail app handles delivery as usual, while Oversec adds a separate encryption layer. Encrypted text can be hidden among ordinary-looking text using invisible characters, and users can add decoy text. Oversec also supports encrypted photos, including a camera mode that can capture and encrypt an image without saving the original photo. It supports symmetric encryption and PGP-encrypted messages. The app uses Android Accessibility services to inspect visible text and interact with input fields. It does not request internet access; any service used to send or store a message is still separate from Oversec. Decrypted text is shown on screen rather than saved as a cleartext file, according to the product description. Oversec is intended for people who want to add encryption to communication apps that do not provide the same workflow themselves.
