About Passchain
Passchain is an Android credential provider for using security keys or a phone’s secure element with passkey, FIDO2, and U2F sign-ins. After installing the app, users enable it in the system’s password, passkey, and account settings. When a compatible credential is needed for authentication, Android can use Passchain to connect the sign-in request with the selected hardware key or secure element. The app supports USB and NFC security keys, as well as the device’s secure element. Bluetooth keys are not supported yet. The description also states that Passchain does not require Play Services. Its role is to provide credentials during sign-in; it is not described as storing ordinary passwords or generating one-time codes. Passchain is intended for people who want to use a hardware-backed passkey or security key from Android’s system sign-in flow. Availability depends on having a supported key or device secure element and enabling the credential provider in system settings. Bluetooth compatibility is an explicit limitation in the supplied description.
