About Roaming Borders
Roaming Borders is an Android data-traffic guard for travel near national borders. Users select the countries where mobile data is allowed, either through a preset or a custom list. If the phone connects in a country outside that allow-list, the app blocks data traffic system-wide; when the device is in an allowed country, traffic continues normally. The app works through Android’s local VPN service as an on-device firewall. It does not tunnel traffic to a remote server. When Wi-Fi is connected, the guard pauses automatically and resumes when Wi-Fi disconnects. This allows mobile-data filtering to be limited to periods when the phone is using its cellular connection. After a phone restart, the guard re-enables after a short delay. The product information recommends enabling airplane mode before restarting as an additional precaution. Roaming Borders is designed to prevent accidental mobile-data use across a border, where a phone may connect to a network in another country even if the user has not intentionally traveled there. It does not itself change a carrier plan or determine charges; it blocks data according to the user’s selected country list.
