About Salty
Salty is an offline Android tool for encrypting and decrypting messages with a shared key, called a “Salt.” Users can move between encoding, decoding, and history tabs to prepare a message for sharing or read one they receive. Encryption uses AES-256-GCM, with the shared key strengthened through PBKDF2 using 600,000 iterations. Encryption history is stored locally on the device. Salty has no cloud synchronization or analytics, and its interface uses Material 3 styling with an expressive dark mode. The app is intended for people who need to exchange text privately using a shared key; both sender and recipient need the same key to encode and decode the message.
