About Silence
Silence is an SMS and MMS app that supports encrypted conversations between compatible users. It works like a conventional messaging app, without requiring an account or central messaging service. Messages are encrypted on the device and sent as encrypted SMS, so communication does not require the app’s own servers or an internet connection. Media and other attachments can also be shared. The app uses end-to-end encryption based on the Signal protocol. Silence is no longer under active development, according to its description, which is relevant for users considering it for ongoing messaging. It combines the familiar SMS workflow with optional encrypted communication for contacts using compatible software.
