About Threema Libre
Threema Libre is a messaging app for text and voice messages, calls, groups, polls, file sharing, and location sharing. Messages, calls, and files are described as end-to-end encrypted. Users can create an account using a randomly generated Threema ID rather than a phone number or email address, and contacts can be verified by scanning one another’s QR codes. Sent messages can be edited or deleted for chat partners, and emoji reactions are supported. The app includes encrypted voice and video calls, a desktop app and web client, and light or dark themes. Threema Libre is a variant that does not include proprietary libraries such as Google Play Services. A license is required to use it. The product description also says that messages are deleted from the server after delivery and that the app has no ads or trackers. These capabilities make it a general-purpose messenger with group and file features, designed around an identifier that does not require a phone number or email address.
